How to do things in dryn

Step-by-step guides for everyday tasks. For general questions about pricing, your data or leaving dryn, see the FAQ.

These guides use the words location, building and space for the levels where your locks sit, and tenant for someone who lives or stays there. Depending on the type of spaces chosen in your Settings, your account may use different words. The steps are the same.

Getting started

Connect your TTLock account and sync your locks

Connecting is a deliberate step you take inside dryn. It isn't linked to the email you signed up to dryn with.

Steps

  1. Sign in to dryn and go to Settings.
  2. Under Integrations, click Manage integrations.
  3. Next to TTLock, click Connect.
  4. Enter the username and password you use for the TTLock app, then confirm.
  5. Once connected, click Sync locks. Your locks are brought into dryn.

After the first sync, dryn checks your TTLock account for changes automatically at least every hour. Use Sync locks any time you want an immediate refresh.

dryn never stores your TTLock password.
One TTLock account can be connected to one dryn account at a time. If you see a message saying your TTLock account is already connected to another dryn account, disconnect it there first, or email hello@dryn.co.uk and we'll help.

If a connection already exists, the button reads Reconnect TTLock. Reconnecting simply refreshes the connection; it doesn't create duplicate locks.

What works with and without a gateway

A gateway is a small device that connects your lock to the internet. It's what lets dryn reach the lock remotely.

With a gateway

  • New access codes reach the lock straight away.
  • Removed codes, cards and fingerprints stop working straight away.
  • You can unlock the door remotely.

Without a gateway

  • dryn can't add or remove codes on the lock. If you try, dryn tells you the change didn't reach the lock.
  • Remote unlock isn't available.

On the Locks page, the Remote access column shows whether each lock can be reached remotely. Locks with a working gateway show Remote ready.

If your gateway goes offline, no door activity is lost. It's stored by the lock and appears in dryn once the gateway reconnects.
Set up your locations, buildings and spaces, and put a lock in a space

dryn organises your locks in levels: a location contains buildings, a building contains spaces, and each lock sits in a space.

Create the levels

  1. Go to Locations and click Add Location.
  2. Open the location and click Add Building.
  3. Open the building and click Add Space.

Put a lock in a space

  1. Go to Locks and open the lock.
  2. Under Lock details, choose the Location and the Space.
  3. Click Save Changes.

Edit or delete a location, building or space

Use Edit or Delete on its card. dryn won't delete anything that still has something active inside it, such as a building with active spaces or a space with a lock or a person assigned. It shows you exactly what's in the way. Deleting something in dryn hides it; it isn't erased in normal use. If you delete something by mistake, contact us.

Access codes

Create an access code

Steps

  1. Go to Access Codes and click Add access code. You can also do this from a lock's page.
  2. Under Who, choose the person. Choose No person (unassigned code) if the code isn't for anyone in particular.
  3. Under Locks, tick every door the code should open. Doors they can already open are marked.
  4. Under Code, choose Use their existing code or New code. For a new code, type your own digits, or leave the box blank and dryn generates one.
  5. Choose the Access period: Time-limited (set Valid from and Valid until), One-time, or Permanent (no end date).
  6. Click Save. With a gateway, the code works on the lock straight away.

One-time codes

A one-time code opens the door once. A second try is refused. Once the lock reports it (usually within minutes, through the gateway), dryn shows the code as Used. One-time codes are for one door at a time.

Codes are hidden. Tap the eye icon next to a code to reveal it.
Change someone's dates or code

dryn doesn't edit existing codes. To extend a stay, shorten it, or change the digits:

  1. Create a new code with the new dates or digits.
  2. Remove the old code.

Doing it this way means every code has one clear record of who created it, who it was for, and who removed it.

Create the new code first, so the person is never left without a way in.
Remove an access code

You can remove a code from any of these places:

  • Access Codes: open the person (or click Expand all) and click the bin icon in the Actions column.
  • A lock's page: under Access codes, click the bin icon next to the code.
  • A person's page: click Delete next to the door.

dryn removes the code from the lock first. With a gateway, it stops working straight away.

If the lock can't be reached, dryn tells you and keeps the code listed as active. You're never shown a code as gone when it still works on the door.
Link a code, card or fingerprint added in the TTLock app

If someone adds a code, card or fingerprint straight in the TTLock app, dryn notices it at the next sync and shows it, so nothing on your locks is hidden from you. Link it to a person so the record shows whose it is.

Codes

  1. Go to Access Codes. Codes added in the TTLock app are marked TTLock app and Not linked.
  2. Click the link button next to the code and choose the person.

Cards and fingerprints

  1. Go to Locks, open the lock and choose the Cards or Fingerprints tab.
  2. Click the link button next to the card or fingerprint and choose the person.
To bring a new code, card or fingerprint in straight away, click Sync Now on the lock.

People

Add a person (tenant, staff, contractor or visitor)

Steps

  1. Go to People and click Add person.
  2. dryn asks whether this person will sign in to dryn:
    • No, they only need door codes: for cleaners, contractors, guests and anyone who just needs to get through the door.
    • Yes, invite them by email: for someone who should see their own access in dryn.
  3. For an invitation, enter their first and last name, email, the location and their space, and choose their role. Click Send invitation.

An invited person receives one email with a sign-in link. When they click it, they set a password before they can see anything. They only ever see their own access, never your dashboard or anyone else's details.

Adding someone doesn't open the door for them by itself. Create an access code for them too.
Suspend or restore someone

For your security, dryn asks you to re-enter your password before suspending or restoring anyone.

Suspend

  1. Go to People and open the person.
  2. Click Suspend and re-enter your password.

dryn takes their codes off every lock they had first, then marks them as suspended. If any code can't be removed, dryn lists which one and doesn't mark the person as suspended until it's dealt with.

Suspending someone also removes their cards and fingerprints from the lock. dryn warns you first. If they come back, cards and fingerprints have to be enrolled again at the lock.

Restore

  1. Open the suspended person and click Restore.
  2. Re-enter your password.

Their access codes are put back exactly as they were, never with more access than before.

Add a card or fingerprint

Cards (fobs) and fingerprints have to be enrolled in person, at the lock. Only access codes can be created remotely.

Steps

  1. Stand at the lock with the person and enrol their card or fingerprint using the TTLock app.
  2. It appears in dryn at the next sync. To bring it in straight away, click Sync Now on the lock, either on the Locks page or on the lock's own page.

To see them, open the lock and use the Cards and Fingerprints tabs under Access codes.

Once a card or fingerprint is in dryn, you can remove it remotely, the same way as an access code.

Activity and audit

Find who opened a door, filter the log and export it

Activity Logs shows every door opening and every change, and who made it. It has two tabs: Door activity and Changes. Where dryn recognises the code, card or fingerprint used, the Person column shows who opened the door. The Method column shows how, for example Passcode, Fingerprint, Card or TTLock app.

Steps

  1. Open Activity Logs. It shows the last 30 days by default.
  2. Narrow it down with the filters for location, lock, event and person, and use the date boxes to look further back.
  3. Click Export CSV to download exactly what you're looking at.

Each lock's page also shows its recent activity, with a link to View all activity for this lock.

Good to know

  • New activity appears at dryn's regular sync, at least every hour, or straight away when you click Sync Now on a lock.
  • The page doesn't refresh on its own. Refresh it to see the latest events.
  • Times on screen are shown in your own device's time zone. Times in an exported CSV use the standard UTC format.
  • Some entries may show how a door was opened but not who.
  • Access codes themselves are never shown in the log, only whose access was used.
Keep a complete audit trail

The access history in dryn can't be edited or deleted. To make sure it's complete:

  1. Create, change and remove all access in dryn, not in the TTLock app.
  2. Keep the TTLock app login to the account owner only.

That way every code has a record of who created it, who it was for, and who removed it.

If someone adds, edits or removes a code directly in the TTLock app, dryn notices at its next sync and records it in Activity Logs as a change made outside dryn. It can't show who approved that change, which is why managing access in dryn matters.

Your account

Change a lock's name

Lock names come from the TTLock app. Renaming a lock inside dryn isn't supported yet.

Steps

  1. Rename the lock in the TTLock app.
  2. In dryn, go to Locks, open the lock and click Refresh name from TTLock. Or wait: dryn picks up the new name at its next sync.

Every name change is recorded in the activity history as Lock renamed.

Cancel your subscription

Steps

  1. Sign in as the account owner, go to Settings and open the Billing tab.
  2. Click Manage billing. This opens our secure payment page, where you can view invoices, update your card or cancel.
  3. Choose to cancel and confirm.

What happens next

  • You get 30 days in read-only mode. You can still sign in, see everything and export your records, but you can't create codes or invite anyone.
  • Every access code already on your locks keeps working. Nobody is locked out.
  • Resubscribe within the 30 days and everything carries on as before.
  • After 30 days your dryn account closes and everyone in it loses access to dryn. Your codes stay on your locks, and you manage them in your own TTLock app.
  • When the account closes, the account owner is emailed a list of the codes still active on each lock: lock name, who it belongs to and its dates. The codes themselves are never included.
Removing one person is different from closing your account. Suspending someone takes their codes, cards and fingerprints off the locks straight away. See the guide “Suspend or restore someone”.
